Four Skillinvest Apprentices and Trainees names as finalists
Skillinvest are very pleased to announce four Skillinvest apprentices and trainees have been named as finalists in AEN Apprentice Training Awards. Congratulations to:
Adlin Chand, Trainee of the Year finalist
Course: Certificate III in Water Industry Operations
Host employer: Greater Western Water
Adlin is currently enrolled in a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations and undertook this traineeship due to her passion for working with natural resources particularly water. A Traineeship was the perfect way to gain hands on experience and work towards a qualification. Originally from Fiji, communication was a challenge for Adlin at the beginning as English wasn’t her first language, but she learned to be more observant to ensure she understood the conversation and has since grown her communication and customer service skills. Through sharing her experiences, she has been able to encourage others to have the confidence within themselves to grow their abilities, follow their dreams and not shy away from opportunities to demonstrate their skills. Encouraging women to follow their career goals and excel in male dominated fields. This traineeship has changed her professional journey for the better with Adlin becoming a valuable member of the Greater Western Water team.
Amy Varley, Inspiration Award- Overcoming Adversity finalist
Course: Certificate III in Individual Support
Host employer: Eventide Homes, Stawell
At the age of 16 years old Amy had an interest in becoming a nurse but wasn’t entirely sure about this career, so to learn a bit more about the industry she decided to enrol in an individual support traineeship with a Certificate III in Aged Care whilst still attending school. Throughout her time studying, Amy has learned how to positively interact and communicate with a diverse range of people, understanding the different needs, conditions and requirements of the residents which in turn has taught her to be more patient and empathetic. She has taken a leadership role assisting new employees, providing guidance and advice and conducting herself in an approachable professional manner. There have been times where challenges have appeared throughout her time studying, but Amy used these challenges as an opportunity to grow her problem-solving skills in being able to identify the best solution to overcome the challenge and succeed.
Josh Ward, School Base Apprentice/Trainee of the Year finalist
Course: Certificate II in Civil Construction
Host Employer: East Gippsland Water
Josh chose this course as he was interested in both plumbing and civil construction work and wanted to learn more about these industries and what they entailed. Through his course he learned about infrastructure maintenance and repair and the importance of sustainability and innovation in modern civil practices and the positive impact it has on communities. In discussing his training, Josh has been able to talk to others about the multifaceted nature of the field and the critical role it plays in shaping the civil and construction environment and managing water infrastructure systems. Highlighting the importance of sustainability and innovation in modern civil practices. Through careful planning, discipline, and perseverance, Josh was able to overcome any challenges and maintain a high level of academic performance whilst actively participating in industry-related projects and community initiatives.
