Published 21 March 2018

Skillinvest are hosting the first annual careers expo on Wednesday 11 April 2018. The expo will be held at Harmony Square – Dandenong from 12 noon till 8pm.

The expo aims to provide career and employment information for students, parents, employers and those looking for a career change. Hands on demonstrations from Skillinvest trainers in Building and Construction, Automotive, Hairdressing and engineering will be a key feature of the expo. Information will also be available on the VCAL, Young Parents and Lift off programs currently running across the greater Dandenong region.

Skillinvest General Manger Dale Gemmell explained “The expo gives the Greater Dandenong and surrounding areas the opportunity to learn about the areas where Skillinvest can assist them. Many people are not aware of the complete range of services we provide or the community programs we facilitate.”

As a Registered Training Organisation, Skillinvest provide training across a range of industries from pre- apprenticeships through to Certificate IV level. Amanda Galea, Skillinvest Training Manager said “Our Building and Construction trainers will be helping attendees to build their own smartphone stand out of wood that they can take home with them.  Our Hairdressing division will have mannequins available for people to learn braiding and other techniques. Another exciting feature will be a display of students work from our VCAL program.”

The Group Training department will be providing information on applying for an apprenticeship or traineeship and how to go about employing an apprentice or trainee for your business. Operations Team Leader Daniel Prins noted that “A lot of people are not sure how the Group Training model works and how we can help with apprentices and trainees. Our consultants will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and to register expressions of interest for any upcoming vacancies”.

The stage area will host various demonstrations and performances throughout the day and a sausage sizzle will be available for a gold coin donation – all proceeds will be donated to a local charity.

Skillinvest together with the support of local businesses will be providing spot prizes and giveaways to those who attend the expo.

Whether you’re looking for a career change, returning to work, looking for employees or still at school and unsure what your career path holds the Skillinvest expo will have the information you need.
